As we've recently posted on our Facebook, staff member, Kellie Smith, is a part of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Alamance program. However, she is not the only member of our staff that has been a part of it. In fact, when she graduates, all members of the Lowe Funeral Home family will have gone through Leadership Alamance program.
Leadership Alamance is a nine-month program (running from September to May) that educates current and emerging leaders about Alamance County- its infrastructure, resources and challenges. As a part of the program, students have a two day fall retreat, take monthly “field days” to various businesses and participate in community service and learning. In addition to growing in awareness and understanding of our community, class members develop valuable contacts and communication networks within the community.
“Each year approximately 30 diverse students who represent the corporate, nonprofit and civic sectors of Alamance County are selected to participate… Participants are selected after consideration of their leadership achievements, community involvement, overall accomplishments, recommendations, and ability to assume expanded community responsibility. The quality of the participants is the primary strength of the program.”
The Chamber of Commerce also offers two similar programs. First, is the Leadership Alamance Alumni Association, which targets Leadership Alamance graduates and provides continuing education on community topics. Second, is the Alamance Youth Leadership Academy, which is a leadership program for middle school students.
