Founded in 1889, Elon University has been a part of this community for over a century. In fact, last week on March 11, the school celebrated its 125th birthday by having what’s been coined “Elon Day”. Elon day (also known as a day for Elon) is a campaign encouraging alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends to celebrate by wearing maroon and gold gear, making a gift to the university and spreading the word about Elon through social media.
All members of the Elon community both near and far, were asked to take part in this day and those who wore their Elon gear could connect with fellow phoenix by posting a photo on social media using the hashtag #ElonDay. Throughout the campaign, over 300,000 viewers saw the Elon University Facebook posts, along with 2,241 users who tweeted and 900 people who instagramed with the hashtag #ElonDay. One of the most popular pictures of the day was taken by President Leo Lambert himself. Pictured are former Presidents, J. Earl Danieley ’46 and J. Fred Young, SGA President, Welsford Bishopric, and Elon’s current President, Leo Lambert.
