As you’ve most likely seen on our Facebook and Twitter, today is Sexual Assault Awareness Month’s day of action. Nationally recognized, today is meant to be a period to focus on sexual violence prevention and it gives us a chance to start the conversation about what we can do to make a difference. Today, organizations across the country will hold events in an effort to bring some of these issues to light.

With the first observation of SAAM in April of 2001, the organization has grown over the past 13 years. “Its goal is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. By working together and pooling our resources during the month of April, we can highlight sexual violence as a major public health, human rights and social justice issue and reinforce the need for prevention efforts”.
As mentioned in previous posts, we are so proud to have organizations like Family Abuse Services of Alamance County as a part of our community. There are many people who need our help and organizations like these give them the hope they need to push through.
So, what can you do to make a difference? Take the initiative and start the conversation with the people around you; because, it’s about time we stop the silence and end the violence.
